It buys bonds with money it does not have.In other words it prints money without backing. This devalues the dollar. I'n exchange for low interest rates you get a lower standard of living. The federal reserve makes unlimited federal debt possible and a lower standard of living inevitable.

@ Rod: The point of the article is that there can be a civil debate. Look at the gubernatorial debate. Mr. Dalton was strong and did not roll over. Both he and McRory were polite. The moderator was fair. That was the debate Romney and Obama should have had.

Gentlemen : this is the type of discourse that makes it difficult to have serious discussion on the issues. Do we need a larger airport to increase commerce? Will the added noise of 2nd generation passenger jets be so disturbing to residents that the added commerce is not worth it? Could the occupancy tax be put to better use by susidizing bus service to RDU or FAY?

Talk about the serious issues and stop the trash talk and The Pilot will be a better place to exercise speech.

Mr. Page:

I want to disagree with you .But, I assume that you are the same Mr. Page who taught me history in high School and had the patience and good manners not to laugh at me when I tried to run cross country. You were my coach. Your inspiration was one reason why I chose to major I'n history at UNC Therefore, I will refrain from disagreement. I will remember this article as I go to Raleigh this December and vote as the elector for the 2nd Congressional District (assuming Romney carries NC)

I am in awe over this discussion. Some of it is sacred and some profane. But, I am in awe of our freedom to speak about what we believe or what we just consider funny. There is truly no other place on earth where this could be drone without fear, not even in many so called free countries of Europe. God has indeed blessed America and blessed us in the process

How can the Democrat Party which prides itself on it's advocacy of civil liberties cheer an illegal ruling by it's convention chairman and cheer a man who orders the arrest of a film maker? Where is the Hollywood free speech crowd? Where are those who decried the blacklist? Are they really happy with Joe McCarthy so long a's he is a Democrat named Obama?

@dusty: Regarding Barry Goldwater we said " I'n your heart you know he's right". Barry's defeat by Lyndon Johnson set the stage for the beginning of the Welfare State. But luckily, it also set the stage for Ronald Regan and, along with William F. Buckley who made the modern conservative movement a reality The defeat of Barry Golwater was not the end, but the beginning of a movement that values the individual rather than the state. It truly asks not what my country must do for me and tries to make sure my government does nothing to me.
