The congressional mandate that the post office pre-fund its retiree health care account 75 years out into the future is the problem. The post office has to put away money ($5.8 billion) per year into a fund to cover medical expenses of employees, some whom haven’t been born yet. This isn't the post office's lack of business strategy, it's the Congress who wants the money.
Everyone knows it is risky to play on the train tracks but that didn't keep many of us from putting a penny on the rail to get it flattened by the next train. People can get nostalgic about something like this without making an irresponsible statement. Your experience is not what most people have, thank goodness, and no one is trying to trivialize that. Being nostalgic and condoning it are two different things.
Great story, my Dad had the same fear. When my parents drove there for an extended vacation he would sink lower and lower behind the steering wheel feeling he was going to be trapped in the world of old people and never be able to leave.
If the Pilot would just fix the reply button then most of the personal nonsense could be just between the writers instead of an ongoing diatribe to everyone. I'd really like to know why the Pilot hasn't addressed this.
Several years ago I went to the emergency room for what I thought was a broken ankle but turned out to be a bad sprain. They wanted to give me a brace and when I asked the person fitting it for me what the price was, they didn't have any idea. When I went to check out with the brace on my foot I again asked how much it costs and they had to make a phone call to find out. When I heard how much I took it off and left it on the desk and limped out. I could buy the same thing at my pharmacy for a quarter of the cost. It really bugged me that although they say they run as a business they don't have any idea what each thing costs as they give it to us.

I don't believe that moral certitude could ever be applied to any politician, Republican or Democrat.

On That Railroad Photo And the Response It Got
"Yes, well. I actually thought the photo had a kind of wholesome, American quality about it." Anyone who can't see that is just grouchy!
