Three questions. Three answers: Yes, Yes, Better.

No Dusty, you're doing fine, that's why your columns generally draw the most online responses, although unfortunately those responses are generally from the same people endlessly repeating the same things and becoming bombastc, no matter where the discussion starts. That problem also exists with letters written to the editor; generally it's the same people & the same rhetoric unless The Pilot publishes something that is clearly offensive to some segment of the community, which it tends to do, apparently quite deliberately, from time to time. Why? Either red meat for the masses or drumming up letters, who knows.

Amazing that people don't have anything more useful to do with their time other than attend a "rally", which doesn't impress anyone, an ecvho chamber of nothing more than people who hold their same views. Booths by the TEA potties and the NRA? Makes Beavis and Butthead appear mature by comparison. Wilkins is a judge and argues for a strict interpretation of the second amendment? If the second amendment were strictly interpreted by it's actual language there is no right expressed of implied to own firearms, only to keep and bear arms in the context of a well regulated militia. Makes Beavis and Butthead appear intelligent by comparison. The citizens of NC & Moore County deserve better.

All this plus two "gun shows" at which 4 people shot: three shared a load of bridshot from a shotgun someone brought in to sell which "went off" when he was removing it from it's carrying case, one who managed to shoot himself when reloading a sidearm after exiting the show. At least in these two incdents by sheer luck no one was killed. PS: after the American Revolution to the extent the founding fathers were concerned about any governmental threat they were concerned with the Brits, not the fledging American government.

"...a terrorist running through your front yard..."? Watching too much Faux News or science fiction, maybe playing too many video games as well? If Barnes sees someone that actually looks like he or she might be a "terrorist" in his front yard in this part of NC it's most likely one of the Ft. Bragg troops participating in their annual training/war games. Hope he doesn't shoot at them...they tend to become annoyed when shot at.

Doesn't need a constitutional amendment, what the Supreme Court did in its most recent decisions can be undone by the Supreme Court. For example Plessy v. Ferguson, 163 U. S. 537, 16 S. Ct. 1138 (1896) upheld the constitutionality of state laws requiring racial segregation in public facilities under the doctrine of separate but equal. Brown v. Board of Education, 347 U. S. 483, 749 S. Ct 686 (1954) repudiated the doctrine. The novel, patiently tortured, historically inaccurate lack of logic used by Scalia and agreed to by Thomas in separating the "militia" from the "right to keep and bear arms" portion of the Second Amendment is fair game and an obvious target for reversal in the first case that reaches the Supreme Court and again deals with the issue, assuming those two have been replaced by jurists with a brain. Let's hope it doesn't take 58 years, at about 10,000 firearm deaths per year that would equal roughly 580,000 dead

Finally, a reasoned and researched commentary concerning the Second Amendment and decisions interpreting it. The relatively recent legal attacks upon and resulting erosion of reasonable firearm regulation at the behest of the NRA and like organizations has been that which created thepresent environment wherein the very people the NRA and its ilk argue shouldn't have firearms are able to secure firearms.

Ms. Wilson has been watching too many NRA commercials and/or old science fiction movies. Can't help but be amused by the right wing wacko "you can have my gun when you pry it from my dead, cold fist" type responses. As in the movie Men In Black, when the alien newly arrived to Earth accepted Egnars' "....dead cold fist...." offer, we accept your offer.

Let's hope it won't be a rerun of the last time, a protracted squabble, leaving the country to once again suffer thereby. Has anyone on the right ever asked themselves what benefit the public circus the last time around produced except a reduced credit rating for the country and increased contempt for Congress?
