Problems with student athlete academic performance is systemic and typically runs all the way to the top. Being a first round draft pick and graduation should not be mutually exclusive. David Wilson from VA Tech graduated prior to his fourth football season and was a No. 1 pick.
I must be going completely psychotic but I have to agree with you here. Institutions like Duke, Stanford, Notre Dame and Boston College uphold their academic standards very well while at the same time being highly competitive in 1A.
Unfortunately, The Presbyterian Church (USA) allowed gay and lesbian ordination in 2011 but it is not a requirement that local Presbyterian congregations to make the decision that best suits their members. Another Christian denomination that has gone off the tracks in terms of God's Word.
As far as Davidson, a few angry calls by wealthy and conservative donors should take care of this problem pretty quick.
Also, even factoring the earning power of so-called student athletes, other ACC school grads out earn UNC. See the link below from a story on ABC-11 this week. You'll note that NCSU outpaces our "flagship school" by quite a bit.
I love the way all you UNC grads live in a bubble. All you NCSU grads out there take note, you are more highly prized than UNC grads. Almost all ACC grads make more than UNC. UVA, the school that UNC compared itself to, public ivy, their grads earn substantially more. I doubt there is much jealousy on payday.
Gosh! Talking about going through the motions. Does County really think that a t-shirt will keep kids in school?
This is a much deeper societal issues that Pinecrest cannot address in a vaccum. It's about thee breakdown in families, drug abuse, children having children, the devaluation of education by many of our young people and the inability of our communities to communicate the problems that these kids will encounter without completing high school and some skills training in community college.
This story proves once and for all that the COC is relatively unimportant.
Congrats to the Taylortown residents. I hope this new store adds significantly new tax revenues to your community.
To the "village elders" of Pinehurst: This demonstrates the can do attitude of other communities surrounding our town. If this store or any other business was trying to move to Pinehurst, you would have been going now through the umpteenth hearing on the matter.
I have the right to criticize a state run institution that I support as a taxpayer.
I would back fixes like the ones listed above at most all universities (although I believe that UNC should be held to a higher standard due to the scandal)
I believe your referring to dookies as those from Duke. Either a miss-spelling or you met some other institution of higher learning that is not embroiled in a scandal.
Unfortunately, we were put into a situation of damned if we do, damned if we don't. As in many cases, scientists, public officials, businessmen etc. work with incomplete data and information. Nonetheless, the best decision at that time needed to be made. Accordingly, once we are informed of an incorrect decision, the error needs to corrected.
Everyone wants to see a healthy Lake Pinehurst. Let's get this done correctly this time with better analysis than we had previously. Hopefully the outcomes will be substantially better.
