Cinemaplex fine ..Big box stores not fine! Say it isn't so!! No Target or Costco please! Why turn this location into a common "strip" mall? Is this what attracts so many to relocate in the area? It isn't what attracted me. Why destroy the charm and character of the area? I'm very against this kind of growth.and the consumerism it breeds with inferior "made in China" junk!

Great topic .. Wouldn't it be nice if every home had a generator to cover those power outages. They should be installed along with the heating/cooling system. I agree that most power lines should be underground but that would mean cutting back on the profits to shareholders and CEO's! I lived in blizzard country in upstate NY for many years and can't seem to recall the power going every time it rained or snowed. What has changed? In any case blessings and prayers go to the victims of Sandy. It is truly a tragedy!

Jim Russell .. The topic was health care, not the criticism of whether or not people can find any of their paycheck left over for savings. Maybe you are able to carry yourself for several years on limited or no income, but most are not in today's world .. The cost of COBRA is very off putting and is only offered for a limited time. My question is how will Obamacare help anyone? Give me an answer that isn't full of bragadosia if you can. PS I did misuse the term medicare in my reply above .. I meant to say medicaid. The comparison between medicare and obamacare is far fetched. How many seniors do you know that have the luxury to decline enrolling in medicare? You must live in a lofty world to put forth an airy fairy response such as yours above.

Paul, Yesterday the women's "benefits" of Obamacare supposedly began .. With two grown daughters, both of whom were laid off and are now job seekers whose unemployment insurance will end this month there is NO help from Obamacare. They cannot afford private medical insurance! Their only choice is medicare since they no longer have employer provided health insurance. One of them was employed for many years by a major bank, one we have all grown to hate. The other was employed in the public school system. She is married with children and oh by the way, her husband was also laid off as a foreman for a new home builder. One lost her home to foreclosure; the other has been working on a loan modification for over a year. Not only will Obamacare not help them, but it will also not help anyone that is currently unemployed or underemployed and has no access to affordable medical insurance. I am very tired of the liberal democrats that worship at the throne of Obama. Have they followed Nancy P's instruction to find out what is in the package now that it has passed? Those of us who currently have medical insurance don't need Obamacare. If you read even a few parts of it or all of it you will remain confused as to how it will really help anyone. In my opinion it was deliberately composed with smoke and mirrors to keep the American people in a state of confusion. Politics in general is loaded with lies no matter the party. How did this happen? We have become "loyal subjects" of the wizards that will use us for their own earthly pleasures.

No one said Andrea Mitchell was impartial, just that she's intelligent, informed and professional in attire and language. Rachel Maddow is the best example of the worst. She gives me chills!! Scary person.

Deb, you are so right about the "cocktail" attire of women TV journalists. It's hard to watch sometimes. Maria Bartaromo on CNBC always impresses me with how she dresses and her skill in interviewing the cream of the crop about business. Re Ann Curry.. she is way too bright and professional for a hokey morning show on NBC. She would do well to have her own cable show. CNN is all over the board these days with much too wide a variety of hosts. My cable news choices bounce between MSNBC and Fox. Both have good morning anchors in my opinion. Try to catch Megyn Kelly on Fox if you haven't. She's a breath of fresh air as a "girl next door" and can be fun as well as very professional, appropriate, and knowledgeable. On at 10 a.m. west coast time. Maybe you're already familiar with her. Would love your opinion .. If you catch MSNBC at the right times they have a few intelligent and informed women contributors. Andrea Mitchell comes to mind. Also wonder if you have watched "The Five" on Fox. I find it fascinating with a very interesting panel of commentators including Dana Parino(?) former press secty for President Bush. She's smart, refreshing and adorable .. PS I really enjoy reading your thoughts and opinions :)

In parts of the CA Bay Area plastic bags have been banned completely! Better buy a bunch of cloth bags or carry your groceries a few at a time to your car. Difficult to get used to and one has to wonder if it's really that big a deal to ban the use of plastic. Some stores offer paper bags for a fee which is resented by many folks. Shop and then pay to take it home? It's overkill in my opinion, akin to global warming.

D.R you say "Because in the dark and scary thicket of paranoia that is the right-wing mind, there is no word that cannot be turned into something fraught with secret and sinister meaning, especially when that word is used by or on behalf of the man they regard as the embodiment of pure evil, President Barack Obama." It is your words that have created a "sinister" connotation to the word "forward" Evil is your label for Barack Obama, your word, not mine! And paranoia is your malady. From the few reads I've had of your opining I find you a frightfully ignorant and bigoted person. May I suggest you write hate journals or political novellas? That is what you seem most suited for with your over descriptive use of words. How about keeping it simple, true and factual for once? The poison you spew is a show nothing less than hate.

The very best solution to all of this total nonsense is to disallow all campaign signs. They are a big nuisance before, during and after every election. Reasonably intelligent people don't need to be told whom or what to vote for. Read about it in your voter pamphlet, talk among your friends and family. Then go VOTE. Stop the littering with stupid signs!!!!
