What is really sad about this is the fact that unless you are a millionaire, or own your own business where you can pay other people to run it for you then forget about this job. This position should be only part time and not the full time job that people make it out too be. This is sad and only puts another layer between us and our elected officials.

What we really should be worried about is the fact our Army will be shrinking. If you take out the cooks, the bands, and any other kind of support persons - How many actual fighting soldiers will we have? I know we cannot be the policeman of the world anymore, but will we have enough of an Army in case we need to put boots on the ground somewhere in the world when we do need them?

It is not often that I will agree with Jim Heim but the truth hurts. I seem to remember some past story which said that the NC DOT spends 6 times a much money on Hwy 12 than on any other comparable State Highway. Those barrier islands are designed by Nature to move - sometimes forward and sometime backward. Sometimes they just disappear. I love the Outer Banks, but somewhere maybe now the tough decisions will have to be made, and some parts of the Banks will just be left to nature. If some people want to stay then they are on their own and good luck to them.

Not to be mean to that little girl but I hope that was her car. You can scratch the paint if you do that to your car. Other than that this feels like the worst season I have seen here in a long time.

What scares me the most about your comment about "ambiguities" in the wording of the Second Amendment is how casual you are about it. The entire Bill of Rights was written, rewritten, thought about, discussed and finally accepted into our Constitution. Some things are just best left alone. If the Second is worded badly, then how do you feel about the others? You start tinkering with one you tinker with them all.

Do you have any idea how the Amendment process even works? I enjoyed your post, but you cannot just add an Amendment to the Constitution. It has to go through what is known as a approval process. States have to vote yea or nay to a proposed Amendment. I think in your scenario that except for a few states, the majority would keep the Bill of Rights the way it is, AND your new country would be very small. Good luck

Well lets see:

No Assault weapon would be sold because fully automatic weapons are banned unless you have a Federal License to own and possess such a weapon, Two to purchase a legally obtained semi-automatic weapon like you are trying to talk about a phone call is placed to the Federal Government to do an instant background check on whoever is purchasing that type of weapon, Three with the current state of things no gun shop in America has 10 of those weapons lying around for sale, and they barely have any ammo laying around also. However if those 10 gentleman have valid ID, pass the Federal Background check, and pay for the weapons then let them do it.

Normally I am not a fan of offering money to entice a business to move, but in this case it makes sense. I hope that the Council tonight approves the request from First Bank. This will be quite a coup for Moore County and downtown Southern Pines if this happens.

You need to not call other people names on these threads. Whether we agree or disagree we needs to keep these threads civil. I really wish you would offer an apology to Jim Heim for your comment above. It has no place in this discussion and needs to be removed.

If anyone thinks that allowing illegals the right to drive is going to drive down our cost of insurance think again. We have citizens who do not buy insurance. We will still have to buy uninsured and underinsured coverage for our cars. One thing that is not being talked about is the cost of providing Social services to these illegals. How much does the State of North Carolina spend for: Housing, Medicaid, Food Stamps, EBT benefits to these illegals? I challenge anyone on these threads in support of illegals to cross over the border into Mexico and try to get the same deals that we give away here. This isn't a Brown Shirt Nazi issue, This isn't a hate issue - A country that cannot or will not protect its borders is not really a country. As for making their lives less miserable their our millions of citizens of the United States who bust their hump everyday to pay for these illegals and well we are getting tired of it. If they are so miserable living here then let them go back to where they came from.
