You know, I don't know you, and you don't know me. You have no idea how much I respect my country. It happens to be a lot. I believe that you and I have a right to disagree. I don't think you have the right to impugn my character because we disagree.

I don't know of an instance where President Obama has lied - but he's human, so I expect he has, at some point. It's late at night, and I don't have time to go looking up point by point the things you've said, except that you're wrong about the economy overall. The jobs report that was released this week shows that the unemployment rate is going down. The deficit has continued to rise, in my opinion, because radical elements in Congress have prevented the President from fully implementing policies that would have ameliorated that situation. For example, The Bush Tax Cuts were supposed to be temporary. They're still in effect. I'm not saying that's the only reason, but I think it's a big one.

We all need to take a long look at each other and decide if we're going to be part of a United States of America, or ... I don't know, something else. The spewing of venom can't continue.

I assume from your letter that you are Christian - so I also assume (and maybe that's the problem) that you understand that God doesn't need to be mentioned in order to be there. I also assume that you understand that facing God on Judgement Day shouldn't be something to be feared, if you are a Christian.

As an American, you should also understand that there are many Americans who do not practice the same faith as you do. The Democratic Party is not a church, it's a political party that includes Christians, Jews, Muslims, people of other faiths, and people of no faith. And that's how it's supposed to be.

I was energized by watching the Democratic Convention - and I will be voting for President Obama and Vice President Biden - and for all of the Democratic candidates down-ticket. The platform that they put forward is reflective of what I believe, both politically and spiritually. I'm not afraid to face God now or on Judgement Day.

Codifying discrimination in any form in the Constitution is against everything I believe in. The purpose of the Constitution - both State and Federal - is to not only set up the Government, but to set up the rights of citizens. Using the NC Constitution to take away rights, or to prevent rights from being given, is wrong. I don't care which party you're from, and I don't care about your religion. That's your business. But when you start trying to "amend" the rights of other people, you're crossing the line.
