Nope. Bullies that hide behind badges. Even if a person has history was he doing anything wrong then DH? No. Accosted and forced to a confrontation. Not appropriate for officers.
I don't mind all cops, it's mostly an age thing. If they are below 35, typically they are gung ho and rude. However officers like Bob Temme I have all the respect in the world for.
The youngins need to learn civility and not over step authority. It takes years of getting put in place the hot heads need to cool down.
It's mostly a question of force and the escalation of it. Recently in downtown S.P. they have been doing foot patrols in plain clothes. Harassing and not presenting themselves in a professional manner. Two incidents recently come to mind. Two undercover officers accosted a man in a wheel chair. When the man forced the officers (who did not display badges but issued orders as an officer) out of his way they pulled him out of his wheelchair onto the ground. Another is on duty officers having a Friday night drink in Jefferson Inn and chatting it up with their off duty buddies moon lighting as bouncers.
Officers doing their duty is one thing. Abusing authority and harassing town folk aren't one of them though.
If the Rev. assaulted the officer he should be tazed. However, if the officer pokes, prods, and bullies to get a reaction so they can use their taser, well they should be reprimanded severely and not given a week off with pay.
Long story short, Do like the Russians and install dash and interior cams for your vehicle. They will protect a citizen when it is their word against the officer. Even A.G. Roy Cooper approves of their use to keep officers and citizens honest in documenting abuse.
