The correct answer here is that you DO NOT raise taxes during a recession. Plain and simple. Reagan knew this. As noted earlier, Bush the first found out the hard way. W (and his advisors learned from Reagan). At the very least, leave all taxes as they are. Better yet, reduce some (if not all) taxes. Not enough money coming in? Eliminate duplicate services/agencies and make the remaining ones more efficient. That's the answer on how to run government.
Would you please enlighten the readers of The Pilot about when it is OK to assault a disabled person (you don't have to concern yourself with the other charges against this young man).

Your version of the race at Talladega in 2009 is false. Brad did not try to put Edwards in the grandstands. Brad did try to win the race. Carl tried to win the race by blocking Brad. It was Edwards own actions that created the contact which led to his car flying into the catchfence (which did its job wonderfully, by the way). And on a side note, the yellow line rule also contributed to the outcome.
In reference to plumblevel's comment about being spoiled, I'm not sure I know how to react. Am I spoiled because I have 2 arms and 2 legs? Or am I spoiled because I live in the U.S. and not India or some other country? Or both? Or what? I'm not sure exactly what constitutes being spoiled, but I'm not sure these are the correct criteria. I can respect how different the way of life is here vs there, but I take a certain amount of offense to the aforemention remarks.
The only problem with the traffic circle is user error. If everyone would realize that the signs are YIELD signs and not STOP signs, then flow would be much better. People in Moore County need to learn how to merge into traffic.

People who drive cars are taxed. Here in NC, we have one of the highest gasoline taxes in the nation. At $2.50 per gallon, a gallon of gasoline would be under $2.00 without the federal and state taxes added to it.
