I, for one, believe it is a great idea to put the building to use. The steam plant was an eye sore for years, I am happy someone has taken interest in it and recognizing its historical value and restoring it to a better state. I think it will be a fine location for a brewpub/restaurant. A little beverage consumption AND food! Looking forward to visiting it when it opens in Pinehurst.

What I don't understand is why they scheduled the elementary children to be at school at 7:45 a.m. while the high school kids go in at 9:00 a.m., that is absolutely ridiculous. Why should the younger kids get to school earlier than the older kids. The younger ones need more sleep and the older kids could get to school earlier and get out earlier to go to a "job" or "work" afterschool. The age of entitlement. I remember being at school by 7:30 or 8:00 and getting out at 2:30 to go to work.

At DogsandCats....This weekend, I had a very similar incident to yours, I came upon a small pomeranian standing in the middle of the road.....HOWEVER, the dog would not come to me and I followed the dog for 30 minutes on foot trying to get close to read his tags....I finally got the dog trapped on a dock wherein someone the dog was familiar with was on a boat where the dog happily and familiarly jumped on board. I FOUND SOMEONE who was knew and was familiar with the dog and knew who the owner was and who the caretaker was while owner was out of town, I tried to find his owner or where he belonged and did not leave him until I was confident the dog was in good hands and being returned to the owner. You, Ms. Conrow, are a thief. If you did not make a concerted effort to find the owner or report him missing, you removed him from his familiar surroundings and kept him from being able to go "HOME". AND, drove the dogs hundreds of miles away from his home, thinking no one would know where he was. Thanks to Ms. Curbride the dog is back with his owner....and it is none of YOUR business how she treats HER DOG! Moral Turpitude, lady....get some!

BCICAN, I agree wholeheartedly! WOW! After reading all of these posts and others from the other articles...I am finding there are alot more people out there to be concerned about besides a 44 year old mother and her 11 year old daughter pulling up political signs! JEEZ LOUISE! All this is ridiculous over three stinking signs and HER religious opinion. AND, posts by Antigayscaresme.....that is someone who we really need to be concerned about. Wanting her to have 20 days in jail?? Really? Does this crime really justify more than a fine and a slap on the wrist?? Come on! Reporting the mother to child protective service ?? She is not beating this child or causing injury or harm in any way, I am sure her intent was not malicious.. ....and putting up a anti-gay websites against Heidi with her picture and pictures of her family and her home address....that is just way out of line...WAY OVER THE LINE!! Think about it, how you would feel in her shoes..someone posting all this HATE against her on the internet...and comparing it to abortion issues......I hope the Pilot has the information about who this person is in case harm does comes to the Thompson family and their well being...

Don't be ridiculous. I did not specifically mean for two officers to be "just sitting around an office doing nothing, twiddling their thumbs"...that may be your perspective...but not mine. And, yes, I realize they just don't sit around waiting for calls. The idea of a substation/police presence was just a suggestion made by myself and others and this is all still in the planning stages. I hope the community will be safe for the children to play, protected and preserved.

An office for maybe two officers in an office the Chamber building would suffice. @Cantstandya.....expecting trouble??...I think the increase in crime lately proves to be the answer ...it has already arrived. @theonewithsense....the police station is half a mile from the park. Why would police "walk" to the park if there there is a call and getting in a car and driving in there in an emergency would take time no matter if it is a half mile....I have heard and understand there is an increase of crime and gang activity in SP. It is just a thought/opinion and who knows when if and when it would be implemented. Preservation of home.

The article reads: the elimination of "a" tennis court...singular. Just one court would be removed. I think it would be a great to add a police substation to the plan. Growing up in the Pines, I spent many an afternoon at the park playing tennis, on the playground and the basektball courts...however, times they have changed and the activities around the basketball courts have changed. A police presence would perhaps deter any illegal activity going on. I like to remember growing up in "Mayberry" and to keep that small town charm alive and well. The increased gang and illegal activity may be curbed by an addition of a police substation.....just my two cents! I hope it will be considered!

Wow! @Wildcard - don't know most of them personally AND call them liars, and to say you "heard" them brag".....$15 to risk your life....yeah - no bankable compensation...is your life worth $15? Is it worth your time to be called at 3:00 a.m. on a Tuesday morning, when someone's home is on fire? Are you on call? Don't knock it until you have tried it. You need to stop breathing the pollen and get some fresh air and perspective!

I agree! Why disturb this beautiful setting...enough disruption with the widening of Hwy 211....it will no longer be a "Village Chapel" or a "Village" for that matter.
