Very true, the hard truth lies in the statement "Americans now compete with virtually every worker on the planet." The key to any individual's ability to compete on the world stage is to a great extent related to education. We must find a way to convince Americans to invest more in education if we are really serious about solving the jobs issue long term.

Another consultant! How much of the taxpayer's money has been spent on consultants in the past 2 years? A bunch! This to tell them exactly what they want to hear.

Well it seems that either Romney or Obama have the same set of problems. 1.) A health system that needs major overhaul (and the Affordable care act could use some changes to make it more like the rest of the civilized world's universal health care systems), 2. A tax system that favors the rich and powerful and that is causing increasing income disparity. 3.) a runaway military spending program where we are spending more than the rest of the world combined to create killing machines that are inappropriate for future challenges, 4.) An entitlement system where the half that really need the social safety net are being categorized with the welfare culture group who have no or little incentive to get off the public dole, 5. A country that is using natural resources at a pace that is unsustainable in the long run. 6. A country with no shared sense of purpose or sacrifice, its all about me and I win you lose. 7,) A media that treats political campaign as a football game endlessly reporting on who will win and who will lose, not as a chance for us all to rationally discuss issues and air potential solutions and build consensus, its all a big game to them and they essentially promote partisanship and hate. These and many other challenges will not be solved with the current (or the candidates) for congress. The reality is they have been bought with big money and influence. The President is almost inconsequential in this scenario without a real leader who can bring us together for a shared vision of where we want to go. Neither seems capable at this point. Discussing who will "win" or "lose" is the wrong discussion, the country is losing and no one seems to be winning. Sorry this seems so down but its really hard to extract positives from these campaigns.

Wow, no public discussion or input on the plans to turn the downtown upside down. No need for that they obviously know everything. Good thing the council members don't live west of the downtown or they would realize that Barrett is and always has been the primary route for people who live west of the village to enter the downtown. Not much real thinking going on here.

But we in the south have guns for everyone, no gay marriages, lots of fast food fried chicken places and a pickup truck in every garage. Who cares about education, equal rights or poverty?

It may be time for some of the older hard liners in our community to read this letter and realize that the youth of the country are more tolerant and open to ideas then the responders to letters these boards typically have. Wake up Moore county, the world is changing!

From day 1 all the changes to the Pinehurst downtown have bee driven by a small group of individuals with a separate agenda. How would they know there is wide support for the project? They have never given the public a real chance for any input. Never any thought for alternatives or compromise. Imagine appointing board members for their experience, judgement and understanding of the issues then when they come up with a decision that in any way goes against your plan you sue them because they used their judgement. Who in their right mind would want to serve on a volunteer basis for this group of despots. Very sad for all of Pinehurst.
