Also check out the Hilton Head Concours ( a very well run and multi day upscale concours ) where the event benefits local charities. Compare that with the Pinehurst resort's event benefiting who ????
Note that almost all famous car Concours (Pebble Beach, Hilton Head, etc.) are run to raise money for charity. Note that the Pinehurst Concours was run to line the pockets of the resort. Shameful display of greed.
This looks like an unneeded burden on the taxpayers. Also the employees of the Holly and the guests park on the streets now and I doubt spending close to $3 million will change their minds. Rental space in the building!!!! Are you kidding? The Village getting into the landlord business and they won't even own the land!!! This one has disaster written all over it. Selecting one firm for design looks very suspicious. Something is going on here. Table this until the need is actually there.
Sounds to me that the change from 3x week to Wednesday and Sunday makes sense. As a subscriber I look forward to the on-line edition to bring me real current news not just the articles that were in the last printed edition. I'll be happy to see the endless trolls and commenters go away and real articulate discussions about the issues take their place. This may take some active monitoring. Maybe commenters should be fully identified. I would also like to see the paper take on some real investigative journalism and publish a few articles (not editorials) that push back at the powers that be in the local governments. The paper looks too much like a house organ at times. Rarely does the Pilot do an exposé about local issues (and there are plenty of local dealings going on that could use some light of day). Don’t be afraid to challenge the local power structure. Just my 2 cents worth.
Wow!! $40 to go to a car show. Yes I know they are special (at least to the owners) but really??? If they want locals to go I suspect they may be disappointed (they already lowered the price from $50 a head). This is not Pebble Beach. $80 for a couple and then probably $5.00 each for a soda on the grounds, $100 for a an hour or so of looking at a hundred or so old cars. And the NASCAR cars are usually at car dealers every so often just to drive showroom traffic. Kind of lowers the bar a bit.
The issue that everyone seems to forget is that this property is zoned single family for a reason. The surrounding land is not high density apartments or condos, it is single family houses. Looks like Pinehurst is hell bent on rezoning every piece of land into high density development no matter what the citizens think. Builders reign supreme. If you want to protest write the Village Council and go to their meeting when it comes up. Tell them they are the elected representatives of the citizens, not the builders.
Once again, pouring money into consultant's pockets to have then tell the village something they already knew. What a waste of taxpayer's money. Suprise, the reccomendation is to spend more money on consultants. When are these folks going to wake up?
@localmattressguy has an excellent point. Whenever a big chain (whatever the product) is coming to the area there are an endless number of stories about their opening, etc. Example was the Cracker Barrel. This free advertisement negatively affects all the competing locally owned businesses. Think about this Pilot. Maybe you need to give the local competing businesses the same amount of free press
Patterson and his co-writers certainly create some enjoyable beach reads but obviously Mr. Corso does not read much in the way of quality literature. To classify James Patterson as a "contemporary literary giant" is somewhat of an overstatement unless his measure is number of books. We all hope the event is a success.
It is difficult to understand why the two council members thought rezoning this one lot was such a great idea. Makes you wonder what their priorities are? Clearly not the same as the thousands of residents in the area. I always thought that council members were elected to represent the residents. Oh, that's right, one was never elected! Citizens and taxpayers need to keep a much closer watch on this group.
