Actually, a family member would have to prove that the are a family member. In order to sign for or authorize anything, they must provide proof. If you claim I'm a bigot, then you would also be a bigot for being intolerant of my beliefs or opinions. Just because I do not believe as you, doesn't mean that I'm intolerant of yours.
As far as I know, they have the same rights as I do - they can vote, they can work without discrimination (and if they are discriminated against, they have legal remedies), they can receive an education, buy a house, own a car, pay taxes, etc. As far s pensions, they can be named beneficiary. If they write contracts, provide for power of attorney, etc, they can do all those other things. Why should they have additional rights?
The problem is you are going about this all wrong. Forget the same-sex marriage, because that will never happen. You should be looking at this in legal & contractual terms. Wills & trusts can be written to allow anyone or entity to benefit. Powers of attorney can be drafted to give others authority over your assets, health & death. The only real issue you need to overcome is in terms of minors. You should be pushing the law to allow for anyone, whether it be related individuals , friends or partners to legally adopt, control or have dominion over minors. This can all be done contractually. You don't need a marriage certificate. No hate, no bigotry, just honest rational & fair thinking.
Though I have not read the amendment and I am sure that there are faults in the way it was written, but how can you label someone a bigot if they believe in preserving the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman? This does not mean they are either bigots or hate gays and if you jump to that conclusion, then you are the one that is displaying bigotry. There really is no comparison between this issue and the discrimination against blacks in the 60s.

In your eyes, it's a civil rights issue, in most Christian eyes, it's a religious & moral issue.
