When a Catholic organization hires employees from the general public, offers services to the general public, and accepts government money for those services, it should not be allowed to impose its theological conditions on its employees' health care choices by refusing to cover contraception. That is not religious freedom; that is religious imperialism and comes dangerously close to the "establishment of religion" that is prohibited by the Constitution.
"Unless the rule is overturned," Olmsted wrote, "we Catholics will be compelled either to violate our consciences or to drop health coverage for our employees."
The majority of employee's at Catholic sponsored and/or founded companies are not Catholic. One scare tactic I've seen from local Bishop's is the option to not "offer health insurance" to employee's. Reality is that decision is not within their power in regards to a Faith based organziation that does not receive funding from the Church.
Total agree Dusty. Although some of my political views fit quite nicely within the conservative genre, I can't stomach actually going there because there's always a dark side with these folks.
