Joe wrote, "If such evidence does not exist then the statements made by Toda, SCC student, southern Fried and others are libelous and slanderous which should be banned from this posting sight and is an offense from which damages can be sought and pursued."

Yeah, to hell with the first amendment! Stop whining about people disagreeing with you and their lack of evidence and provide some to the contrary instead.

@ Joe - I answered your questions. It's your turn.

  1. Is it a conflict of interest when a person votes on an issue where they have a clear involvement with the issue and plan to financially gain from it's decision?

  2. Is it a monopoly when only one company/person is given rights to perform work without allowing other companies/persons to bid on the same work?

Manipulating the laws at the detriment of the county for personal gain doesn't make them just. It makes them criminal in my opinion. Just because you believe you can get away with something, doesn't mean you should do it.

This jail may be needed, but this isn't the time for it. And I seriously doubt that we're sending pedophiles home while maintaining less severe criminals in the jail.

  1. Again, in your view, the plan of a jail is flawed, so please enlighten us as to what you would do if you were County Commissioners? A: I would not push the county further into debt without creating an income ESPECIALLY when the economy is suffering. A new jail may be needed in the foreseeable future, but this isn't the time for something like that. We need to be reinvesting in our community rather than the criminals.

  2. How many peopl other than yourselves believe the fantasies, lies, and innuendos? A: How many people know that you can't spell? Both numbers are growing daily.

  3. Since you all are so much smarter than the rest of us, when can we expect to see your names on ballots running a campaign not for the betterment of the people of Moore County, but rather on smearing innocent people and companies based on no facts just your own fantasies? A: These last two questions weren't even questions at all. Since according to others, you intend to run for some form of office at some point, let me help you out with this last one. It's called Freedom of Speech. I know, it's stupid right? People have the freedom to vocalize or imprint their displeasure with someone/something without recuse. I suggest that you and every other politician that you know read and review the most surpassed pieces of legislature in America; The Bill of Rights and The Constitution. http://topics.law.cornell.edu/constitution/billofrights http://www.law.cornell.edu/anncon/

I'm not from here. I haven't lived here long and I don't vote based on a party title, but I'll answer your questions with nothing more than common sense.

  1. Bert Patrick and her followers were defeated on election day by Tom Stewart, Lisa Caddell and others because they had a vision for Carthage not a negative agenda based on distortions and fantasy. A: Hitler recorded 30% of the vote when running for president in 1932. Politicians smile and hold babies during election years and any politician and/or informed American knows that money speaks louder than logic in elections.

  2. TOda, SCC Student, and Southern Fried have produced no evidence either written, printed, or otherwise confirming their outrageous claims. A: Picerno and Caddell own a software company that is being embedded into a jail that they voted into existence. If not illegal, this is morally corrupt. I think you'll find this is illegal. Time will tell more. You may want to evaluate your proximity to these men.

  3. Again where was the controversy four years ago when the land was purchased for that reason? A: Never heard of this 4 years ago. Never heard that $50 million was going to be spent on a jail 4 years ago.

  4. What evidence of corruption other than your fantasies and prejudices make your case against Southern Software, Nick Picerno, Larry Caddell, or Lane Carter believable?
A: Again, Picerno and Caddell own a company that is going to embed their software into a building that hasn't been built yet and without putting it out to bid to other companies. Software companies often give the software free because they make the real money on license fees, maintenance, update/upgrades, etc. I worked for one. Was the same offer given to other software companies?

  5. If so, will you produce it to the Pilot, Seven Lakes times, or Maureen krueger DA, or at the next Commissioner's meeting? A: By definition, monopoly is characterized by an absence of competition - which often results in high prices and inferior products. ~ Dictionary.com

  6. If not, then how can anyone believe you when you have no evidence, no facts, or proof? A: It's pretty obvious and all I really need is a business card from either Picerno or Caddell for proof they're in a conflict of interests here.

  7. Isn't true that even in the absence of evidence and truth that your opinion would remain unchanged thereby making your opinion merely the fantasies of one person or several. Isn't that what it is? When someone thinks something that is not based on facts or truth? A: Not for me. Provide some real facts that make a real case instead of the 40 questions to divert attention and I'll make sensible conclusions. Just as I've sensibly concluded that 2 of the 3 votes used to push this through were cast by men with conflicts of interest.

JER, very little money is spent by illegal immigrants in the U.S.. Immigrants that spend a lot of money here rather than send it back to Mexico are typically shunned by their peers. So the taxing of their food, housing and gas is minimal. They over-bed homes, carpool and prepare their own food. (NOTE: I'm not grouping ALL illegals into this category, but the majority). For most, this is a temporary solution to their monetary issues. They do not intend on remaining here their entire lives. My comment about them not paying taxes is still correct as the amount they pay in taxes is next to nothing. And in fact, they would pay a good deal to the IRS as they would be 1099 employees not W-2. Also, stating that they are taking the jobs that American's don't want to do is not true. Roofing, framing, cooking, cleaning, etc. are all tasks that Americans do well, but we expect fair pay for our work. Illegals know that they don't have much of a choice but to accept less pay for those positions due to their immigration status. Using your previous logic ("When the demand for drugs goes away, the supply coming into the country will dry up"): If the illegals weren't here, those jobs would pay better.

Do you blame the woman being robbed for wearing such expensive jewelry or the thief? What about the young lady wearing short shorts for being raped? If it's easy to do, then it's not your fault for falling prey to it even when it's wrong? Come on now. Drug addicts are bad. So are the people importing the drugs and selling them. I never condoned either the usage of drugs or the importing/selling of drugs. Both are bad, but I'm a realist. Dramatically reducing the sheer number of illegals entering the US will reduce the drug flow in this country, but it will never remove it. My point was that you'll have a much more daunting task of trying to eliminate all drug usage in the US rather than eliminating the importing of drugs (and therefore illegal immigrants) into the US.

@ aveteran - two wrongs make a right?

The reality is that violence is something that is unavoidable for mankind as a whole. Religion seems to amplify that as it is a very personal subject and the faith that it requires is even more personal. Name a religion and I'll outline to you the many times that, as a whole, that religion has entered into violence. Even Gandhi said that it's better to be violent if violence is in your heart than to hide it due to weakness. Paraphrased obviously. Realistically, NONE of those religions actually encourage violence. It's the flawed men that claim those religions that justify violence by twisting their own religion.

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." —Matthew 5:38-42, NIV

"..Take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law: thus does He command you, that ye may learn wisdom."
— al-An'am 6:151

I agree with readerbill. That's just cruel. You can die for your country, but don't drink or you'll be arrested.

But seriously, how many of you DIDN'T drink alcohol or experiment with drugs before the age of 21?

So some kids change the name of Pinecrest High School to Incest High School and this county erupts with anger and demands punishment, but when a Democratic representative physically harms a young man on a public street, the majority look away. Pathetic. How many articles did that stupid prank acquire with The Pilot? How many of you cried out calling them criminals? Where are your loud voices now when an adult physically harms a young man? I'm so tired of narrow-minded political drones that follow/defend anything related to their party. Simpletons.

JER wrote: "The bulk of those crossing the Mexican border are doing so to get work to support their families. Those who come because of the drug trade are doing so because there are huge fortunes to be made because this country has a very big appetite for illegal drugs."

...and they send that money back to Mexico. That's income generated in the US, not taxed, and then sent out of the country. They utilize our roads, schools, etc. without helping pay for them like a US Citizen would. I have a BIG problem with that. Honestly, it sucks for them that they were born into a country where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, but we as Americans have our own financial issues. I'm tired of seeing money delegated to other countries when we need the assistance here at home. So again, sucks for them and maybe when we're standing tall, we can help, but right now, we're on one knee struggling to stand.

As for the drug issue...Those that use Mexico as an avenue for transporting drugs are doing so because we cracked down on smugglers in the Caribbean in the 1980s. The demand for drugs is alive in every country.

Reality check; neither of these problems will ever "go away" as there are too many government jobs that rely on these issues. If we suddenly stopped the flow of illegals into the U.S., we couldn't validate the number of Border Patrol Officers, Helicopters, DEA Agents, Police, etc. Jobs would be lost and billions of dollars would diverted elsewhere. I won't get into the info, but I'll say this; What better job security than to always ENSURE that there is a reason for your job to exist.

Arguing over intent vs institution is kind of pointless here. The facts are that the use of "God" is found all throughout our history as Americans. If the question is, "Did the founding fathers intend on having the country controlled by Christian ideals?", then the answer is 'No'. They also NEVER intended on this much Federal involvement. As a matter of fact, until the Civil War, the rights to make decisions solely belonged to the individual state. I digress.

If the question is, "Were the founding fathers Christians and did they utilize their beliefs when creating the foundation of this nation?", the answer is 'Yes'. Does that mean that we need to re-word everything that was written to remove the religious tones and language from our history? No! They allowed for religious tolerance in the constitution.

I applaud Atheists. It requires more faith to believe that there isn't a God and that "life" after death is decay rather than believing in a forgiving God and Heaven. I'd prefer to be incorrect and believe in God than incorrect and not believe in Him.

@GoldenDreams I'm not republican, but when people chastise President Bush for his actions in the war, it bothers me. We were attacked on our own soil and forced to respond. Remember, President Bush wasn't the President that started this battle with Bin Laden.

"I got closer to killing him than anybody has gotten since. And if I were still president, we'd have more than 20,000 troops there trying to kill him," Clinton said, referring to Afghanistan.

War sucks and, thank God, most nations suck at it. http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/did_more_soldiers_die_during_bill_clintons.html
