No need to rely on things from the "made in" company, Pakistan, India or others. Many veggies can be grown in containers on a porch or back yard or in a garden. There are local farms to get beef, deer hunters and ways to get local meat and cheese.

Walmart track record of poor service, poor quality products, and unprofessional treatment of its employees speaks for itself. How many stores can Carthage support?

The current Detention Center has a new building containing federal sized cells, 4 stories tall, and the Pub Safety is 3 stories. This monstrosity between McNeill and Dowd is supposed to be completed in Nov and is said to be 146,998SF.

On the article subject, notice the writer indicates competition to Walmart but not the opposite. Walmart will be big competition to Fred's, Dollar General and to Family Dollar Stores. As for me, I will not shop at Walmart. It has sold tainted vegetables, meat with listeria, frozen veggies with glass shards in the past, and cadmium tainted kid's jewelry (do an internet search as this has been on the TV.) It is a big enterprise that cripples the smaller stores, has a track record of unfairness to employees, poor customer service and poor quality products.

How can that be true when so many only want to buy the property for nearly nothing when it is in a prime location in the heart of the commercial district down town? Market value is really all about what the seller will accept and what the buyer is willing to pay. I would bet that the right buyer just hasn't been found yet that will turn that property into something really nice. Just look how many years the Belvedere was in neglect and how nice the courtyard is today. Southern Pines shops were rather flat for many years but now there is a great pride of ownership that has made it very attractive with very nice storefronts. Hopefully someone will come along that will want to purchase the Fitanides property that appreciates the potential of that lot and the location.

Do not assume that some or many of those have not given to various community causes just like the one on that day that some felt was an inconvenience.

Debt is debt that must be repaid. While the Commish may have lowered the tax rate in the past, value stream revenue sources were added in the background....like tax on cell phones and cable bills. Ever heard of the "Moore County Telecom Sales Tax?" Take a look at your bill to see if you are paying it and it is probably right under the NC State Telecom Sales Tax.

Also, keep in mind that the new courthouse has not been built yet. This will add to the future County debt load. What is going to be the cost of furnishing the public safety and the new federal sized JAIL and how about the administration and maintenance cost of all that?

I appreciate that CSmithson follows the workings of County Government and respect his opinions.

Go here to read the minutes, listen to audio of the "Regular Meetings" and to see the BOC Meeting Video. http://www.co.moore.nc.us/index.php/mnu-boc

Especially see the video of the last meeting where the Veterans Memorial is discussed. You can advance the video by holding your mouse cursor on the button on the bottom while moving it to the right. It's the button that moves as the video plays. It will allow you to skip the parts you don't care to watch.

The truth is really hard for some people to understand about protecting the Veteran's Memorial and Commissioners illegally discussed the potential sale of "County Owned Land" to a commercial enterprise. The truth is that certain commissioners illegally went behind closed doors discussing the sale. TPo4 (Caddell, sitting duck Picerno, Melton and Kennedy) know full well they have done wrong. They are an embarrassment to all who served and they have now spit on the Vet's Group. Those commissioners are a true disgrace to the Veterans and people of Moore County by not doing the right thing to protect the Veteran's Memorial right away but choose to delay it further.

Just go to www.news14.com and see the video and article. The above link doesn't seem to work.

Get ready for the "behind closed doors" Bojangles and county land sold compliments of TPo4 (Caddell, Picerno, Melton and Kennedy.) I bet it is a done deal already. A "Study/Report" and committee is nothing but stalling for time hoping the whole thing will go away. TPo4 will go ahead with anything they want to do while violating the law. That they would not pass a resolution to protect the Veteran's Memorial reeks of arrogance toward the Veteran's Group and speaks volumes to the citizens, taxpayers and voters of Moore County. The "Behind Closed Doors" commissioners that want to sell County land violated the law. They should resign.
