Union Pines Vikings coach John Frye, Pinecrest Patriots coach Gail Deese, and Vike No.1 player Melissa Tally discuss the October 3, 2011 cross-county tennis match. Union Pines claimed a 5-4 victory in the contest, to notch its first win over the Pinecrest girls' tennis team since 1994. That Patriots claimed each of the previous five meetings between the two squads, including a 5-4 win last season.

A Justin Brabham free throw put the homestanding Vikings ahead 57-52, but Overhills cut the deficit to one possession on a layup at the other end of the court. Union Pines answered by breaking the Jaguars' press and scoring two on a Jon Toomer layup to extend the lead back to five points.
